Died June 9, 597 on the Isle of Iona, Argyll and Bute, Scotland.

He was an Irish abbot and missionary evangelist credited with spreading Christianity in what is now Scotland.

He is the patron saint of Derry, Northern Ireland; Scotland; Derry, New Hampshire and bookbinders.

His intercession is invoked against floods and pandemics.
